Policy Matters
Affordable Housing
Many people trying to make a permanent and stable life here are faced with rapidly increasing housing prices and low availability of homes in any reasonable price range. There should be a safe, affordable home in Moab for all our residents- from young people supporting our businesses and building the community’s future, to families and seniors who have lived in Moab for decades and are the long-term backbone of our town. Through advocating for common-sense, housing-friendly policies at the local and state level that preserve local housing for local residents and leveraging my experience as a contractor in new development, I will endeavor to make sure that anyone trying to build a life here has a great place to call home.
Public Safety
Moab should be one of the safest and best places to live in the nation for all residents, including youth and seniors, and for everyone from pedestrians to motorists. I think that everyone can see that the traffic situation downtown could use some work, close calls between motorists and pedestrians should not be the norm. This can be accomplished by making sure our traffic is controlled and speeds are not only reasonable, but enforced. It also means ensuring that residents–especially kids-have safe, maintained paths away from major traffic around town, and that we work with the County, UDOT, and other stakeholders to make sure dangerous intersections and crossings on Main Street are addressed.
Maintaining The Balance
Tourism is a critical part of our economy, and Moab wouldn’t be the place we all love without it. However, what makes Moab truly special is the blessing that tourism today comes alongside a whole host of other economic and cultural opportunities and sectors in our town. Local government should support and seek to enhance all of our businesses and economic sectors, because this unique combination is what gives Moab its soul, and is what will sustain us for many more generations in our valley. We also need to find a balance between the many user groups that come to enjoy all of the beauty that moab has to offer. Everyone should have an opportunity to enjoy our town and the canyon country surrounding it, and I believe that focusing on and reminding everyone of their personal responsibility to be courteous while in town and out on the trail is the best solution to making sure everyone has a place here.
